Serving Seniors Celebrates 51 Years of Advocacy and Support for

Older Adults, honors The Honorable Vito Geroulo

SCRANTON, PA — Serving Seniors, Inc., a nonprofit leader in advocating for and protecting vulnerable older adults in Northeastern Pennsylvania, will have its annual dinner on Friday, Sept. 25 at 5:30 p.m. at the Manor on Main in Dickson City.

The non-profit organization will honor retired Lackawanna County Judge Vito Geroulo with its Legacy of Care Award in recognition for his contributions to the wellbeing of older adults through his service as Orphans Court Judge and his varied career of service to the community.

“Judge Geroulo has a well-earned reputation for fairness, integrity, compassion, and unwavering respect for law,” said Serving Seniors Executive Director David Falchek.  “As a Senior Judge presiding in the Lackawanna County Orphans’ Court he has overseen matters affecting vulnerable older adults and families, bringing to each case thoughtful judgment and dignity that characterized his years on the bench.”

Serving Seniors provides long-term care ombudsman services in Lackawanna, Luzerne, Monroe, Pike, Wayne, Wyoming and Carbon counties, advocating for residents of skilled nursing and personal care facilities. In addition, the agency offers guardianship and power of attorney services and serves as a patient advocate for older adults recently discharged from hospitals, particularly those with chronic or complicating conditions.

“For half a century, Serving Seniors has worked to ensure dignity, safety, and voice for some of the most vulnerable members of our community,” said Falchek. “The needs of the older adult population haven’t gone away—and are likely greater now than ever.”
